Nice is not exactly what I would call a cheap destination. You’re on the French Riviera, one of the more upscale parts of Europe, and in summer especially, hotel prices can get ridiculous very quickly.

That said, you can find good “cheap” hotels in Nice France, if you know where to look and don’t expect a luxury resort right on the beach.

For this list, I’m focusing on hotels that offer a good balance between price, comfort, and location. The prices can obviously change depending on your dates, but these are the properties I’d check first when trying to keep a Nice hotel under €170.

Moxy Nice

If you want a cheap hotel in Nice that still feels like a proper modern hotel, Moxy Nice would be one of my first choices.

This is definitely the kind of hotel I’d look at if I wanted to keep the price reasonable without ending up somewhere that feels like I’m just paying for a bed.

Moxy has modern rooms, a social atmosphere, a bar, fitness facilities, and plenty of common space. It’s also in the new Joia Méridia area, with the tram right outside, so you’re not completely disconnected from the rest of Nice.

The main thing to understand is that it’s not in the historic center. You’re choosing a more modern area and good transport connections in exchange for usually getting a better price.

For me, though, that’s a pretty good trade-off when you’re trying to stay under €170.

Mercure Nice Centre Grimaldi

If you want something more central and comfortable, I’d check Mercure Nice Centre Grimaldi.

It’s a 4-star hotel in central Nice, around 500 metres from the Promenade des Anglais and the beaches, and it’s right on the edge of the Old Town. The hotel is in a 1930s Art Deco building and also has a rooftop.

This is the option I’d compare directly with Moxy.

If you can find the Mercure for cheap price (sometimes even 100€ a night) I’d seriously consider paying the extra money over a basic budget hotel because the location is much more convenient.

You’re close to the beach, Old Nice, restaurants, and the main central areas, so you can do a lot without relying on transport.

Hotel Restaurant Isidore by Soniho

If you don’t care about being in the center of Nice and want to save money, Hotel Restaurant Isidore by Soniho is a completely different option.

It’s in the Saint-Isidore area, close to the Allianz Riviera, and has 79 air-conditioned rooms, free private parking, a restaurant, a bar, and a terrace. Tram line 3 is nearby and connects the area with central Nice.

This is much more of a practical hotel than a city-break hotel in the middle of everything.

But if you’re renting a car, attending an event at the Allianz Riviera, or simply find a much better price here than in central Nice, it can make sense.

I wouldn’t choose it for a short first visit if the whole point is being able to walk around Nice from your hotel. But for the right trip, it can be a very good way to keep your accommodation costs down.

easyHotel Nice Old Town

If your priority is simply finding a cheap hotels in Nice France, easyHotel Nice Old Town is one of the easiest options to check.

This is a very straightforward budget hotel. You’re not booking it because you want a fancy room or lots of hotel facilities. You’re booking it because you want somewhere clean, modern, and relatively affordable in a useful location.

It’s at 38 Rue Barbéris, close to Old Nice, with the République tram stop around three minutes away and the Port of Nice around 18 minutes on foot.

The rooms are simple, but that’s exactly the point. If you’re going to spend most of your day exploring Nice, you might not need to pay for facilities you’re never going to use.

Best for: Budget travelers, short stays, and keeping accommodation costs low

Hôtel Parisien

If you’d rather stay in a small independent hotel instead of a big chain, Hôtel Parisien is another option worth checking.

It’s in the Libération district, close to Nice-Ville train station and around a 15-minute walk from the Promenade des Anglais. The hotel has just 22 air-conditioned rooms, with free WiFi and double glazing.

The location is particularly useful if you’re planning to use the train to explore other parts of the French Riviera.

It’s not going to give you the same hotel experience as the Mercure or Moxy, but if you find a good rate, it can be a much better deal than paying inflated prices simply to stay in a more touristy part of Nice.

How to Choose a Cheap Hotel in Nice

When looking for cheap hotels in Nice France, I’d start with the location rather than simply choosing the cheapest room.

If you want to be able to walk everywhere and you’re visiting Nice for the first time, I’d look at Mercure Nice Centre Grimaldi first and then compare it with Moxy Nice.

If you just want somewhere comfortable and don’t mind using the tram, Moxy can be a really good compromise.

For the lowest possible price, easyHotel Nice Old Town is the obvious one to check.

And if you’re happy staying outside the center, Hotel Restaurant Isidore by Soniho can give you a completely different price point, especially if you’re traveling by car.

Cheap Hotels in Nice France: Final Thoughts

Finding cheap hotels in Nice France is definitely possible, but you have to be realistic about what “cheap” means here.

You’re still on the French Riviera, so I wouldn’t expect five-star facilities or a beachfront room at this price.

For me, Moxy Nice and Mercure Nice Centre Grimaldi are the two I’d check first if I wanted a comfortable stay without going completely overboard on the price.

If those are too expensive for your dates, easyHotel Nice Old Town is where I’d look next. And if you’re willing to stay further from central Nice, Hotel Restaurant Isidore by Soniho can give you another way to bring the price down.

The trick is really to compare the price against the location. Saving 30€ a night isn’t necessarily a bargain if you’re then spending that money and your time getting into Nice every day.
