I Paid 35€ for a Tiny Dorm Bed in Nice — Was Hostel Ozz Worth It?

Nice is expensive.

There is no nice way to say it.

I’m so used to traveling around Asia, where I can get a really good hostel for a fraction of the price, that paying European summer prices again genuinely hurt.

When I was choosing where to stay in Nice, Hostel Ozz Nice kept coming up because it had really good reviews, looked modern and was one of the most reviewed hostels in Nice on Booking.com.

The prices were painful basically everywhere, so I eventually gave up trying to find some magical cheap option and booked a bed here.

I paid around 35€ per night for a bed in a 4-bed mixed dorm.

Was it worth it?

Mostly yes.

Would I stay again?

Probably.

But there were also a few things that really annoyed me.

Why I Chose Hostel Ozz Nice

The main reason was honestly that it looked better than a lot of the alternatives.

The hostel looked modern, clean and much nicer than some of the cheaper-looking places I was finding, and the reviews were really good.

At that point, I had already accepted that staying in Nice was going to be expensive no matter what I picked.

So if I was going to spend around 35€ on a dorm bed anyway, I at least wanted somewhere that looked decent.

The other big reason was the location.

The Location Was One of the Best Things About It

For me, the location worked really well.

Hostel Ozz Nice is just a short walk from Nice-Ville train station, which was perfect because I was using Nice as a base to explore more of the French Riviera.

I took the train to Menton and Monaco, so being able to just walk to the station instead of figuring out local transport every time made things much easier.

It also felt central enough that I could walk around Nice without constantly needing buses or trams.

That was a huge win for me because I hate arriving somewhere and immediately having to understand another public transport system just to do basic things.

The Dorm Room Was Tiny

This was probably the biggest downside.

I booked a 4-bed mixed dorm, and the room felt like it had originally been designed for one person before somebody decided:

“Actually, we can fit two bunk beds in here.”

And somehow they did.

The beds themselves were actually good.

They were comfortable and had privacy curtains, which I always appreciate in dorms because it makes such a difference when you are sharing with strangers.

But the room itself was ridiculously cramped.

When all four of us were inside in the late afternoon or evening getting ready, opening bags or trying to move around, it became a constant:

“Sorry.”

“Can I just squeeze past?”

There was basically no room for four people to exist at the same time.

One Bathroom for Four People Got Annoying Fast

The dorm had its own bathroom, which sounds great in theory.

In reality, there was only one bathroom for all four people.

That meant waiting.

A lot.

Especially in the morning or evening when everyone wanted to shower, brush their teeth or get ready at the same time.

I definitely prefer hostels where there are several shared bathrooms outside the room because at least then you are not completely dependent on one person finishing before anyone else can use it.

So yes, having a private bathroom inside the dorm sounds better.

For me, it was actually more annoying.

Breakfast Was Simple but Worth It for Me

Breakfast was available for an extra cost.

It was pretty basic, nothing fancy, but enough to start the day.

I ended up paying for it because I genuinely did not want to wake up early, go outside and start searching around expensive Nice for somewhere cheap to eat before I had even had coffee.

Sometimes convenience wins.

Especially first thing in the morning.

It was simple, but I was happy enough to have coffee and breakfast sorted without thinking about it.

Did I Feel Safe at Hostel Ozz Nice?

Yes.

I felt completely safe during my stay.

I had no issues in the dorm or around the hostel, and the area also felt fine when I was coming and going.

For me, safety was never something I worried about here.

Was Hostel Ozz Nice Worth 35€ a Night?

This is where Europe annoys me.

Because 35€ for a dorm bed still feels ridiculous to me when I know what that money gets me in Asia.

But for Nice?

Unfortunately, that was just the reality.

Hostels across the city were expensive, and Hostel Ozz was at least modern, clean, well located and comfortable enough.

So while I would never call 35€ for a dorm bed cheap, I also do not feel like I made a bad choice.

I was paying Nice prices.

At least I stayed somewhere decent.

Would I Stay at Hostel Ozz Nice Again?

Yes, I would.

The location alone was incredibly convenient for the kind of trip I was doing, especially with the train station nearby.

The beds were comfortable, I liked having the privacy curtain, everything felt safe and the hostel itself looked modern.

The tiny dorm would still annoy me.

A lot.

But I could deal with it again for a short stay.

That said, if I went back to Nice, I would also look seriously at SLO Hostel Nice.

The facilities look really good, the rooms appear less cramped, and everything looks clean and modern.

If the price difference between SLO and Hostel Ozz was small, I would probably choose SLO next time just to see whether the extra space made the stay more comfortable.

If Hostel Ozz was noticeably cheaper, though, I would have no problem staying here again.

Hostel Ozz Nice Review: Final Thoughts

Hostel Ozz Nice was a solid choice for my trip.

The location was excellent, especially for taking trains around the French Riviera, the beds were comfortable, I felt completely safe and the hostel felt modern and clean.

The biggest downside was easily the room size.

Four people plus luggage inside such a small dorm was way too cramped, and having only one bathroom between us became annoying very quickly.

Still, Nice is expensive no matter where you stay, and for the price range I was seeing, I think Hostel Ozz was a good enough option.

Would I stay again?

Yes.

Would I check SLO Hostel Nice first next time?

Also yes.
