Best time to visit Menton: Seasons Guide

Visiting Menton in Spring

Spring is a good time to visit Menton if you want decent weather without paying summer prices.

It won’t be as hot as summer, but it’s already warm enough to spend the day walking around, sitting by the sea and exploring the Old Town without melting.

Pros
Good weather
Less crowded
Cheaper than summer
Nice for walking around

Cons
The sea is still cold
You might get some rain

Visiting Menton in Summer (June-August)

This is when I visited Menton and I’d honestly choose summer again.

When I finally decided to visit the French Riviera after wanting to come here for years, this is exactly what I wanted. Blue skies, beaches, restaurants full of people, colorful streets and that proper summer holiday feeling.

Yes, it’s busier and more expensive, but for me that’s exactly how Menton should be experienced.

Pros
Best weather
Swimming
Long days
Best atmosphere

Cons
More expensive
More tourists

Visiting Menton in Autumn (September-November)

September is probably the second-best time to visit Menton. It’s still warm, you can usually still enjoy the beach, but there are fewer people than in the middle of summer.

Later in autumn the weather becomes less predictable, so it’s a bit of a gamble.

Pros
Still warm
Fewer crowds
Usually cheaper than summer

Cons
Weather becomes less predictable

Visiting Menton in Winter (December-February)

Personally, I wouldn’t come to Menton in winter.

When I think about the French Riviera, I think about sunshine, beaches and eating outside. That’s why I’d come here in the first place.
Winter is quieter and cheaper, so if that’s your priority then it can still be worth visiting. It just wouldn’t be my choice.

Pros
Cheapest time to visit
Quiet

Cons
Cooler weather
More rain
Not beach weather

Best time to visit Menton for…

Best weather: June to August. If you’re coming for the beaches, colorful streets and that classic French Riviera feeling, summer is definitely the best time to visit Menton.

Budget travelers: November to March. Hotels are usually much cheaper, but you’ll have to accept cooler weather and a higher chance of rain.

Photography: I’d say late spring and summer. The colorful buildings look incredible under blue skies, and that’s exactly how I wanted to see Menton after dreaming about visiting for so long.

Day trips: Spring, summer and early autumn. Since most people visit Menton as a day trip from Nice, these months usually give you the best chance of good weather.

Avoiding crowds: April, May and September. You’ll still get nice weather without the busiest summer crowds.

France is a very safe country, but things like cancelled transport, lost luggage or unexpected medical bills can happen anywhere.
