Is Nice a good destination for solo travel?

Yes, Nice is a great choice for solo travel. It’s walkable, well connected by train to the rest of the French Riviera, and touristy enough that you’re never really alone even when you’re traveling alone.

It’s not a destination that requires much extra planning just because you’re solo. I never felt out of place eating alone, walking around by myself, or figuring things out on my own. The one thing worth knowing going in is that it’s a big, touristy city, so normal city-travel awareness applies.

Is Nice safe for solo female travellers?

Short answer: yes, overall I felt safe.

Nice is a big, touristic city in Western Europe, so there are pickpockets around the busy tourist areas and the train station, same as you’d expect in any major city. But I explored on my own for three days and never had a scary moment or felt unsafe.

Getting around Nice on your own

Nice is genuinely easy to navigate solo. The old town and the seafront are walkable, and if you’re heading further out, the tram and bus network covers the city well.

For day trips out to places like Monaco and Menton, the train is the easiest option and something you can absolutely figure out on your own . The stations are straightforward and the rides are short. Just know the trains to the popular villages get busy, especially with everyone doing the same day trips, so it can feel a bit packed. It’s short enough that it’s more of a minor annoyance than anything to worry about.

I’d also recommend having Uber installed as a backup, especially for getting to and from the airport or if you’re out later than public transport runs.

Where to stay in Nice as a solo traveler

I’d recommend staying somewhere central, close to the old town or the promenade, so you can walk to most things without relying on transport late at night.

Solo doesn’t have to mean alone the whole time. If you want some social time built into the trip, day trip tours are a really easy way to meet other travelers without much effort. You’re stuck on a bus or train with the same small group for a few hours, which naturally leads to conversation.

Solo dining in Nice

Eating alone was never an issue for me in Nice or anywhere, but I know for many solo travelers it can be a big deal. Nice is a very touristy city, so solo dinners aren’t as scary and are pretty common and nobody looks twice.

The only tip I would give for you as a solo traveler is to be careful at night being outside by yourself in a new city. I would say if you can, find a restaurant close to your accomodation (that’s why staying in the city center is key), or if you are choosing something further away you can always use Uber to get a safe ride back at night.

Staying connected while traveling solo in Nice

As a solo traveler, being connected at all times is not optional. Trust me, I have learned my lesson the hard way and found myself into pretty stressful situations because I thought I wouldn’t need internet or a SIM card. Budget tips for solo travel in Nice

Traveling solo usually means covering the full cost of your room yourself, so accommodation is where your budget takes the biggest hit compared to traveling with someone else.

A few ways to keep costs down:

• Visit outside of peak summer if your dates are flexible — prices climb a lot in July and August
• Use the train instead of taxis for day trips, it’s cheap and easy to do alone
• Eat where locals eat rather than directly on the seafront, where prices are higher

I visited right at the start of summer, which meant prices were already up but not yet at full peak-season levels, a decent middle ground if you want good weather without the most expensive prices of the year.

Yes. traveling solo to Nice is a pretty good choice for solo trip to Europe. If you stay in the city center you can walk everywhere and explore with ease, and it’s an amazing destination for a lot of day trips to the beautiful villages of the French Riviera.

I wouldn’t say its super easy, as i’ve spent a lot of time traveling in Southeast Asia and I think that part of the world is where you can easily make friends with a simple hello.

No. Nice and the surrounding villages are well connected by train, which is the easiest way to explore the Riviera solo.

Nice was an easy city to do solo. It’s walkable, well connected, and touristy enough that you never really feel out of place traveling alone. Three days gave me enough time to explore Nice itself and get out to Monaco and Menton, and I felt comfortable doing all of it on my own.
