The 6 Best 5 Star Hotels in Kochi, India
I spent 3 months living in Kochi, so I had plenty of time to get a feel for the different areas and what actually makes sense when choosing where to stay.
Kochi has some seriously impressive luxury hotels, but they are not all offering the same kind of experience. Some are huge resorts with every facility you could want, some are historic properties in Fort Kochi, and others are much more intimate and completely different from what you normally expect from a five-star hotel.
In this guide, I’ll share the 6 best 5 star hotels in Kochi, including the properties I would look at for different types of trips.
5-Star Hotels in Kochi: Quick Picks
If you don’t want to read through all six, these are the hotels I’d look at depending on what you’re after:
| Category | Hotel |
|---|---|
| Best Overall 5-Star Hotel | Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty |
| Best Luxury Hotel in Fort Kochi | Forte Kochi |
| Best for a Unique Experience | Chittoor Kottaram |
| Best Boutique 5-Star Hotel | The Postcard Mandalay Hall |
| Best Waterfront Hotel | Brunton Boatyard |
| Best Resort-Style Stay | Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty |
The 6 Best 5 Star Hotels in Kochi
Chittoor Kottaram Royal Mansion – A CGH Earth SAHA Experience
If you want something completely different from a standard luxury hotel, Chittoor Kottaram is probably the most unusual option on this list.
This isn’t the kind of five-star hotel where you arrive at a huge lobby, check in, and then spend the next few days surrounded by hundreds of other guests. It’s a much more intimate experience, with the property designed around a traditional Kerala royal residence.
The setting is also a huge part of the appeal. You’re away from the busy parts of Kochi, surrounded by water and greenery, so staying here is as much about the experience of the property as it is about having somewhere luxurious to sleep.
I’d choose this if you want privacy, something genuinely different, and a stay that feels connected to Kerala rather than a generic international luxury hotel.
Location: Chittoor, Kochi
Best for: A unique luxury experience, privacy, couples, and a special occasion

The Postcard Mandalay Hall, Kochi
The Postcard Mandalay Hall is the boutique option I’d look at if a huge resort isn’t your idea of luxury.
It’s much more intimate than properties like the Grand Hyatt, with a strong focus on design and the experience of staying in a smaller property.
And the location is a major advantage if you’re interested in Fort Kochi. You can actually stay in the part of Kochi where you’re likely to spend a lot of your time rather than being removed from it at a large resort.
This is the kind of hotel I’d choose if I wanted five-star service but still wanted the stay to have some personality.
Location: Fort Kochi
Best for: Boutique luxury, design, couples, and exploring Fort Kochi

Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty
If you want the full luxury hotel experience, Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty is the obvious one to look at.
This is a much bigger property than the boutique hotels on this list, with multiple restaurants, pools, extensive facilities, and a waterfront setting on Bolgatty Island.
It’s also the kind of hotel where you can genuinely spend a day doing very little and still have plenty around you.
I’d choose the Grand Hyatt if the hotel itself is going to be a big part of your trip rather than simply somewhere you’re sleeping between exploring Kochi.
For a first-time visitor who wants a large five-star property with plenty of facilities, this would probably be my first choice.
Location: Bolgatty Island
Best for: Resort-style luxury, facilities, families, couples, and longer stays
Book Here: Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty

Forte Kochi
If you’re specifically looking for a luxury stay in Fort Kochi, Forte Kochi is one of the most interesting choices.
The biggest advantage is that you can combine the comfort of a luxury hotel with actually being in the middle of Fort Kochi. You can walk out and immediately be surrounded by the streets, cafés, shops, and sights that make this part of the city so popular.
It’s also a much smaller and more characterful property than a large chain hotel.
If I were choosing between a huge resort outside the center and a smaller luxury property in Fort Kochi, I’d pick based on what I wanted from the trip. For actually experiencing Fort Kochi, Forte makes much more sense.
Location: Fort Kochi
Best for: Luxury in Fort Kochi, couples, history, and boutique-style stays
Book Here: Forte Kochi
Brunton Boatyard – A CGH Earth Experience
Brunton Boatyard is another very different take on luxury in Fort Kochi.
The hotel is right on the waterfront and the whole property is tied into Kochi’s maritime history, which gives it much more character than a generic five-star hotel.
This is one I’d consider if you want your hotel to feel like part of the destination rather than simply a luxury property that could exist anywhere.
The waterfront setting is obviously another big reason to stay here, particularly if you’re looking for somewhere with views and a slower atmosphere while still being right in Fort Kochi.
Location: Fort Kochi waterfront
Best for: Waterfront views, history, couples, and character
Book Here: Brunton Boatyard
Fragrant Nature Kochi – A Five-Star Classified Hotel
If you want to stay in Fort Kochi while still having the facilities and feel of a larger luxury hotel, Fragrant Nature is another option worth comparing.
It’s in a convenient location for exploring the area and gives you a different alternative to the smaller boutique properties.
I would particularly compare it with Forte Kochi and Brunton Boatyard based on the prices for your dates. If you’re looking for a five-star hotel in Kochi but don’t want to stay at a huge resort outside Fort Kochi, this is one to have on your shortlist.
Location: Fort Kochi
Best for: Five-star facilities, Fort Kochi, couples, and longer stays

How to Choose a 5 Star Hotel in Kochi
When choosing between 5 star hotels in Kochi, the first thing I’d decide is which part of Kochi you actually want to stay in.
If you want to be surrounded by the sights, streets, restaurants, and atmosphere of Fort Kochi, I’d look at Forte Kochi, The Postcard Mandalay Hall, Brunton Boatyard, or Fragrant Nature.
If you want a much bigger luxury property where you can spend a lot of time enjoying the hotel itself, Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty makes more sense.
And if you’re looking for something genuinely unusual rather than simply an expensive hotel, Chittoor Kottaram is in a category of its own.
I’d also think about how much time you’re actually going to spend at the hotel. If you’re planning to spend every day exploring Kochi, I wouldn’t necessarily pay a huge premium for a massive resort with facilities you won’t use. If the hotel is part of the holiday, though, that’s when the bigger properties become much more appealing.
5 Star Hotels in Kochi: Final Thoughts
There isn’t one obvious answer when it comes to the best 5 star hotels in Kochi because these properties offer completely different experiences.
Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty would be my pick for the full luxury resort experience, while Forte Kochi or The Postcard Mandalay Hall would make more sense if you want to stay in Fort Kochi and actually experience the area.
For something more unusual, Chittoor Kottaram is the one that really stands out, while Brunton Boatyard gives you that waterfront Fort Kochi experience with plenty of character.
If you’re spending several days in Kochi, I’d choose the hotel based on the kind of trip you want rather than simply choosing whichever property has the highest rating.
