One thing Porto definitely has is viewpoints.

Every time you walk up another hill, there’s another amazing view waiting for you. Some are famous and packed with tourists, while others are much quieter and people still don’t know about them.

I’ve been to Porto several times now and these are the best viewpoints in Porto. Some are perfect for sunset, some have the best views of the river, and some are just nice places to sit down for a bit after walking up a bunch of hills. 

So if you’re looking for the best viewpoints in Porto, these are the ones I think are actually worth your time.

Best Viewpoints in Porto: My Quick Answer

If you’re short on time, these are the three best viewpoints in Porto I wouldn’t miss:

Jardim do Morro – My favourite viewpoint in Porto, especially at sunset.

Miradouro da Vitória – One of the best free views over Porto’s rooftops and the Douro River.

Serra do Pilar – Probably the most iconic view of Porto and the Dom Luís I Bridge.

8. Miradouro das Fontainhas

This is one of those viewpoints that not many people seem to talk about, but I actually really liked it.

It’s a bit away from the busiest parts of Porto, so it’s usually much quieter than Jardim do Morro or Serra do Pilar. If you just want to sit down for a while without hundreds of people around you, this is a good spot.

You still get a really nice view over the river and the city, just without the crowds.

7. Clérigos Tower

If you don’t mind climbing a lot of stairs, this is one of the best viewpoints in Porto.

From the top you can see the rooftops, the river and pretty much the whole city. It does cost money to go up, but if it’s your first time in Porto, I honestly think it’s worth it.

Just don’t expect to have the place to yourself because it gets busy, especially during summer.

6. Miradouro da Vitória

This is probably one of the best free viewpoints in Porto.

It’s only a few minutes away from Ribeira, but somehow a lot of people still miss it. You get a really nice view over the rooftops, the river and the bridge, and you don’t have to pay anything.

I came here a couple of times and it never felt as crowded as Jardim do Morro.

5. Jardim das Virtudes

This is one of my favourite places to come at sunset.

It’s not as famous as Jardim do Morro, but the views are really nice and there’s usually a lot of people sitting on the grass just watching the sunset. It has a much more relaxed atmosphere than some of the bigger viewpoints.

If you have time, I’d definitely stop here for a bit.

4. Dom Luís I Bridge

Technically this isn’t a viewpoint, but the views from the top of the bridge are so good that I had to include it.

You’ll probably cross it anyway while visiting Porto, so make sure you stop in the middle for a few minutes instead of just walking across. You get one of the best views of Ribeira and the Douro River.

Just be careful because there are trams crossing the bridge too.

3. Serra do Pilar

If you’ve seen photos of Porto before visiting, chances are they were taken from here.

The view over the city, the bridge and the river is honestly incredible. It’s also one of the best places for sunset, although it gets busy because everyone has the same idea.

Even with the crowds, I still think it’s worth coming here.

2. WOW Porto

Most people come here for the museums or restaurants, but I actually think the terrace has one of the nicest views in Porto.

You can sit down with a drink, take your time and enjoy the view without feeling like you’re in a rush. If you’re already visiting Gaia, I’d definitely stop here.

If I could only recommend one viewpoint in Porto, it would be this one.

The view over the river, Ribeira and Dom Luís I Bridge is just amazing. I came here every time I visited Porto, and I’d do exactly the same again.

If you can, come for sunset. It gets busy, but there’s a reason everyone comes here. Just grab a spot on the grass, sit down and enjoy the view.

For me, this is easily the best viewpoint in Porto.

Honestly, I don’t think you need to visit every single viewpoint in Porto to enjoy the city.

If you’re short on time, I’d just head to Jardim do Morro, Serra do Pilar and Miradouro da Vitória. Those three are my favorite and definitely the best viewpoints in Porto and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with any of them.
